Green Kitchen with Bamboo Reface, Bamboo and Eco-Resin Doors

This house is located outside of Chesapeake City on the Chesapeake and Delaware canal. The homeowners had previously updated the kitchen with granite countertops, appliances, and tile. They wanted to update their oak cabinetry while minimizing the financial and environmental impact of new cabinets and countertops. The customer chose vertical grain carbonized bamboo from our environmentally friendly product selection. The doors and refacing materials are solid bamboo, which were then finished with a waterborne topcoat. The horizontal grain is continuous from door to door throughout the kitchen. The 3form door inserts, made of recycled resin and purchased though 3form’s reclaim program, add a unique decorative element to the kitchen. We built a custom shelf unit to replace the soffit above the window. The new cabinet displays their artwork and allowed for pendant lighting to be installed. The remaining soffit was removed to increase the upper cabinet height from 30 inches to 42 inches. This provided additional storage space and an updated look without replacing the upper cabinets. This project is an example of how Moore’s Cabinet Refinishing’s services can reduce waste and utilize eco-friendly products.
